EVERY   SCHOOL   DAY   COUNTS      Friday October 7th 2022

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Everyone has the right to be SAFE

Everyone has the right to be RESPECTED

Everyone has the right to LEARN

WELCOME BACK: It is so good to see everyone back at school and rested after our two-week break. We also welcome our new families to our Melton South Primary community. This term we also welcome back Mrs Derinda Blake to EAL and 2G on Fridays.

HATS: It is important that all students have a navy blue wide brimmed hat. We are an accredited Sun Smart school so hats are required to be worn at recess and lunch breaks as well as in their PE session.

CAMPS: We have a very busy term ahead of us with camps planned for Doxa, Grade1, Grade 2 and Grades 3 /4. In order for them to proceed we rely on staff volunteering to supervise these camps.

VAPING: We have had some concerning issues with vaping this week. Rest assured that all parents concerned have been contacted.

We all play an important role in protecting children and young people from, and educating them about, the harmful effects of smoking and vaping.

Research from the Royal Children’s Hospital shows many people are not aware of the harmful effects or how their views about smoking and vaping can impact the likelihood of a young person taking up smoking or vaping.

The Department of Education and Training has developed resources to help us all learn more about the health risks of smoking and vaping, and some suggestions about how to talk to children and young people about vaping, and where to get support. To access the resources, go to https://www.vic.gov.au/smoking-and-vaping-advice-parents

You can also view this video on smoking and vaping from experts at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne for health advice and tips for starting a conversation with young people.

Mental Health and Wellbeing

Finding an enjoyable activity or hobby can reduce stress and turn our thoughts in positive directions. Activities that bring us joy cause our brains to release chemicals which keep us feeling positive and relaxed. These activities and hobbies are also a great excuse to socialise with others who are interested in similar things. Hobbies usually involve taking action like learning a new skill, or collecting, building or creating something.

Here are some suggestions to help you find the perfect match!

Take a class or a lesson in something you would like to try.

Go to a concert or an art gallery for inspiration.

Look at your childhood-what did you love to do?

What is that thing you’ve always wanted to do?

Turn your pet into a hobby, entering in competitions or training them. (They will love you for it!)

Turn fitness into a hobby with regular workouts, yoga or mindfulness.

SPORT REPORT

VOLLEYBALL GIRLS – Division Game Day

The girls’ volleyball team made it into the division game which was held at Aintree Primary school. During our first set it was difficult at the beginning due to our nervousness but as we played on, students began encouraging each other and so it became easier to play.  We ended up winning our first set against Aintree Primary school. As we started our second set it was going well until our opponents started to catch up to us and they won the second set. Our last set was very nerve racking as our scores kept tying up, so it was a very close match but we did end up winning by two points. Melton South PS Volleyball Girls won the Division Game day and were declared the CHAMPIONS!

GOOD LUCK TO THIS TEAM IN THE UPCOMING REGIONAL MATCH.
