We recognise the First People’s connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respects to Elders, both past, present and emerging.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Everyone has the right to be SAFE
Everyone has the right to be RESPECTED
Everyone has the right to LEARN

SCHOOL OVAL CLOSURE: The school oval will remain closed as we put in an irrigation system and lay turf. The oval was an OH&S issue and needed to be addressed for the safety of students, staff and community. I have met with all grade 5/6 students to get their ideas on what the challenges are now that the area is closed and any ideas that we could introduce to overcome these challenges. I have also spoken to my Student Voice group for ideas. Some students suggested lunch time club – LEGO and gardening clubs were just a couple of ideas.
I have spoken to all students at assembly about the oval closure and advised them if they have any ideas for activities to see the students in the Student Voice group. Some other ideas were to hold different activities in the lunch break, utilising the gym. An example would be MSPS’s GOT TALENT COMPETITION. Students can perform solo, in small groups, singing or dancing or other acts. We will have a panel of judges and lots of fun. Students will be able to come into the gym and be the audience. More information to follow.
Rugby has been a problem in Area 5 as the students have not been following the rule of no tackling despite repeated reminders by yard duty teachers. Rugby is not being played in break times until further notice. Area 5 will be rostered to give more students an opportunity to play in that space. PE teachers have also discussed with grades on how to adjust games in a limited space. We will continue to work with students and staff to see what we can put in place while the oval is closed.

OLYMPICS: Last Friday we hosted the Melton South Primary School Olympics. All grades chose a country to represent. and came dressed in their country’s colours or green and gold for Australia. We started with an opening ceremony which included a smoking ceremony and the athletes oath. The students and staff had so much fun and the weather was perfect. After competing in the sporting activities, we met for the closing ceremony. This was a tug of war, all grades competed. A big thanks to Mr Demarchi and Mr Smakman for their great organisation and the grade 5 /6 students who assisted in the running of all the sporting events.

PARENT OPINION SURVEY: The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey (PCGOS) is a confidential survey made available to all Victorian government schools in Term 3 each year. Schools may choose to invite a random sample of approximately 30 per cent. The survey was sent out today via email. to the random sample of parents. The aim of this survey is to collect parent/caregiver/guardian opinion data from individual schools, and to use this information to assist with the future planning and improvement of Victorian schools.

OTHER EVENTS: Bullying No Way Week – MSPS will be celebrating Bullying No Way Week between 12th – 16th August 2024. On Monday 12th August students and staff came to school with a touch of purple. Students will be completing activities throughout the week focusing on Bullying No Way.

SPORT NEWS
OLYMPIC FUN IN THE SUN

Last Friday MSPS went under a massive transformation to put together one of the BIGGEST OLYMPICS EVER!!! Every student that was able to make the day had a ball of fun and we even had the sun join us. A MASSIVE Congratulations to the staff and students on displaying such great sportsmanship and camaraderie it just made the day even more enjoyable. GO MSPS.

Respectful Relationships
This week in our Respectful Relationships lesson, we drew a flower and wrote a problem on the stem. We then wrote solutions on how we could fix the problem. I problem solved ‘bullying’ and wrote bullying on the stem. My solutions were to walk away, count to ten, tell the teacher, tell someone, run away, calm yourself down, talk to wellbeing and then we coloured it in.
