EVERY   SCHOOL   DAY   COUNTS
Tuesday June 4th 2024

Melton South Primary School acknowledges the Wurundjeri People as the Traditional Owners of the land on which we learn and play. We value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture. We recognise the First People’s connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respects to Elders, both past, present and emerging.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Everyone has the right to be SAFE
Everyone has the right to be RESPECTED
Everyone has the right to LEARN

SPECIAL EVENTS: A big thank you to members of our school community for attending the Biggest Morning Tea. We really enjoyed the opportunity not only to raise money for a great cause, but also to have the time to sit and talk with our parents over a cup of coffee.

SLIMING THE TEACHERS: Our students and staff got to vote on which of the 18 staff who nominated to get slimed. Garrick Demarchi, Garry Vella, Deb Soccio, Peta Theodora and I were the lucky ones. The 5 highest fundraisers poured a bucket of slime over each of us. It was fun, highlighted by the slime fight at the end. All of the students clapped and cheered and we all agree next year we will have another Colour Fun Run followed by Sliming of Staff! We raised over $12,500 which is the highest fundraising event we have held.

LOST PROPERTY: Just a reminder to name all students jackets and windcheaters. The lost property tubs are overflowing and there are so many that are not named, if they are named staff can return them to the students.

WINTERS HERE: We have already had many students and staff come down with flu-like symptoms. If your child is ill, the best place for them is to be home. Sanitiser will be in all classrooms. We are frequently topping up the soap dispensers in the students toilets, unfortunately many students waste the soap by emptying the dispensers. Please assist us in reminding the children that the soap is to assist their personal hygiene, not something to play with.

BUSY WEEK: On Monday students in Preps to Grade 3 had to attend a performance by Peter Combe. Many teachers’ children grew up listening to his songs and it was great to see so many of our students singing along with Peter. Grade 2 students had their transport incursion with a visit from the local police. Tomorrow our grade 1 students are visiting a farm at Diggers Rest.
Staff spend a lot of time ensuring these excursions/incursions are beneficial to students.

To celebrate the completion of our ‘Traditional Fairy Tales Unit’ of Investigations and the end of Term 2, the Prep team will be running a Fairy Tale incursion on Tuesday June 25th.  Students will rotate through a variety of interactive fairy tale related activities, run by the Prep team. Students are also encouraged to dress up as their favourite fairy tale character.
We also ask for donations of yarn, paper cups, cotton balls and cereal boxes, which can be given to your child’s classroom teacher.
If you have any questions regarding this incursion please see  your child’s classroom teacher.

Thank you,
Prep Teachers

National Simultaneous Storytime is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association. Each year a picture book which is written and illustrated by an Australian is read simultaneously across libraries, schools, childcare centres, homes and more. This year’s book is Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker. Now in its 24th successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children’s book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.

In Grade Prep the students explored the book during reading and worked on retelling the events in order. Students then collected items from around the school Making their own bowerbird nests.
