MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

CURRICULUM DAY: The first day of term 2, Monday the 24th of April will be a student-free day. Staff will be working with our Literacy Consultant on writing and spelling followed by a session on student well-being. Tuesday the 25th is the ANZAC DAY public holiday. Students will return to school on Wednesday the 26th of April.

CENTENARY PARADE AND PICNIC: This Friday, 31st March, our school will be holding a Picnic Morning Tea and Centenary dress-up parades. Families are encouraged to BYO their own picnic food & blanket/folding chairs to celebrate our school’s momentous celebration.
Parents, families, staff, and students are also invited to dress up in period costumes to represent the decades throughout our school history (1923- 2023).

P – 2 Parade 9.15am – 9.45am
Picnic 10am – 10.25am
3 – 6 Parade 10.25am – 10.55am  

A parade and picnic will be held in the quadrangle. If inclement weather, it will be held in the gymnasium.

1923 CLASSROOM: We have been busy setting up our 1923 classroom. Next term students will have fortnightly lessons in this classroom. They will be using chalkboards, ink wells, etc without the use of computers and other 2023 technology. This Morning a photographer from the local paper came to take a photo of grade 3C students, in the classroom.

BUSY WEEK: Next week will be a busy one for students at Melton South Primary. The House Athletic sports for students in grades 3 and 4 will be held at Bridge Road Recreation Reserve on Tuesday the 4th of April. Parents are welcome to come and watch. The cross country for students in grades 3-6 had to be postponed due to the wet conditions. It has been rescheduled for next Wednesday the 5th of April; held on the school and rugby oval. Parents are welcome to watch from the rugby oval.

CRAZY HAT PARADE: For students in grades Prep, 1 and 2 there will be a hat parade in the quadrangle on Thursday the 6th of April in the quadrangle at 9:15 am.

Melton South Primary School acknowledges the Wurundjeri People as the Traditional Owners of the land on which we learn and play. We value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture. We recognise the First People’s connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respects to Elders, both past, present and emerging.

CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS UPDATE

Our first round of brick paver orders closes on Friday 31st March. From Term 2 onwards we will be holding other events to celebrate our Centenary milestone. This will include the theme of our Expo in early Term 3, a school open day in October, and small group heritage tours taking place as part of the Melton Heritage Festival in April. We are also opening the Facebook group dedicated to celebrating our Centenary.  You can join the group by searching “Melton South Primary School – Celebrating 100 Years” to share your stories, photos and to be informed of upcoming information. We have an email dedicated to all Centenary enquiries at: 100Years@meltonsthps.vic.edu.au  

 Melton South Primary School Swimming Lessons Year 4

The Grade 4 students will be participating in a School Swimming and Safety Program in Term 2. They will have 9 swimming lessons at Melton Genesis Swim School on Coburns Road. Students will be transported to and from Genesis by bus. A swimming timetable will be created once student numbers have been confirmed.

Dates:  Monday 1st May, Tuesday 2nd May, Wednesday 3rd May, Thursday 4th May, Friday 5th May

Monday 8th May, Tuesday 9th May Wednesday 10th May **NO SWIMMING due to school photos, Thursday 11th May, Friday 12th May

Cost: FREE  
The lessons in this program is funded by the government, making it more accessible and cost-effective for parents.

Permission forms and up-to-date medication plans, such as asthma MUST be returned to school no later than Wednesday, April 26th.
