EVERY SCHOOL DAY COUNTS
Tuesday October 22nd 2024

Melton South Primary School acknowledges the Wurundjeri People as the Traditional Owners of the land on which we learn and play. We value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture. We recognise the First People’s connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respects to Elders, both past, present and emerging.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Everyone has the right to be SAFE
Everyone has the right to be RESPECTED
Everyone has the right to LEARN

STUDENT FREE DAY: Yesterday teaching staff had their DET Professional Practice Day and Education Support staff had professional learning on Protective Intervention. This involved
Module 1: – DET Policy – Core behaviour response & de-escalation skills
Module 2: – Core protective skills – Personal safety & safety intervention
Module 3: – Guiding Principles of protective Intervention – Links back to policy & de-escalation

Links to wider school approach, incident response & follow up – Escalation scenarios, questions & reflective discussion.

CAMP PLANNING: Camp planning is well underway, thank you to Sarah and Peter who organised the parent information session online and to the parents who signed in. Just a reminder that the bus will leave on time, 9am as activities are scheduled on arrival at camp, if students are late they will miss the bus. There are still outstanding forms that have not been handed in, they must be returned by Wednesday this week or your child will have to be withdrawn from the camp.

GRADES 2025: Teachers devote many hours to the development of grades, taking many factors into consideration. If you have any specific requests, please put them into writing to the Principal marked Confidential and hand in to the office by Friday the 25th of October. You may send an email to melton.south.ps@education.vic.gov.au subject – Attention Principal. All requests will be given due consideration.

DENTAL SMILE SQUAD: As you might be aware, we have had the School Dental Program – ‘Smile Squad’ attend our school to give the students information on good dental health, undertake dental examinations and, where required, organise follow-up treatment. While the program is voluntary, many of you consented for your child/children to participate in the Smile Squad program. To better understand the delivery of the Smile Squad program including benefits and challenges, an independent firm (Abt Global) has been engaged to evaluate the program. This is your opportunity to provide feedback on your experience of the program. If you didn’t consent for your child/children to participate in Smile Squad they are also keen to hear from you. The evaluation team wants to understand why you chose not to
participate. So, whether you participated or not, this is an opportunity to provide feedback so that improvements can be made to the Smile Squad program.

To participate in the evaluation, you can complete a confidential 5–10 minute survey. The survey does not require you to provide any information to the evaluation team that identifies you, however the survey does ask what school your child/children attend. Here is the link to the survey.

We encourage you to participate in this short survey and provide valuable feedback on Smile Squad. If you would like to provide more detailed feedback to the evaluation team, please contact Eleanor at smilesquad_eval@abtglobal.com.
