MATHS AT MSPS

The last couple of weeks have been very busy for the staff and students at Melton South PS. Every class, except our foundation students, have completed a Number and Place Value test on Essential Assessment. Essential Assessment is an online platform that aligns directly with the Victorian Curriculum. Teachers have been using this data as one assessment tool, to identify students who require extension in Mathematics.

French 2024

In French classes our aim is to encourage a love of languages, an appreciation for our own and other cultures and to inspire our students to travel, explore and care for this wonderful world of ours.

Research shows that learning a language is very good for our brain. Learning a language enhances neuronal connections, which improve memory, concentration, problem solving, conflict resolution skills, the ability to multitask, as well as increasing self-discipline and self-esteem.

The common question we often get is why are we learning French?

Five fun facts about why we have chosen to learn French at MSPS.

 Fun fact #1
Some 40 to 50% of English vocabulary comes from French, so studying French enhances grammar skills.  As you develop greater skills in French, you also sharpen your skills in English.

Fun fact #2
French is, along with English, the only language spoken on five continents.  It is the first or second language in more than 40 countries.

More than 220 million people speak French.  It is the second most widely learned language after English and the sixth most widely spoken language in the world.

Fun fact #3
France is often considered the language of culture. A French lesson is a cultural journey into the worlds of fashion, gastronomy, the arts, architecture, literature and science.

Fun fact #4
French is a language for learning other languages. It is a good grounding especially for Romance languages (Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Romanian).

Fun fact #5
Paris “The city of love” is the most visited travel destination. We encourage our students to be smart and use their heart.

This term, in French, we are getting to know each other and learning different greetings.
We are practicing these greetings through songs, dance, puzzles and games.
We are encouraging our students to be smart and use their heart, to uphold our school values of being safe and respectful so that we all have fun in French.

 Merci
Bonne  Journée et joie de vivre!
