Melton South Primary School acknowledges the Wurundjeri People as the Traditional Owners of the land on which we learn and play. We value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture. We recognise the First People’s connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respects to Elders, both past, present and emerging.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

SMILE SQUAD:  Did you miss your Smile Squad dental visit? The Smile Squad team from Western Health have now completed their visit at our school. During this time, they provided free dental care to students who returned a signed consent form. If anyone in your family returned their consent form but didn’t get seen, it’s not too late as you can visit Smile Squad at their community dental clinic. Please contact the team at any time to book an appointment. Just let them know you signed up to Smile Squad and have returned a consent form. This is a free service.

SPECIAL EVENTS: We had a very busy time last week with the Book Week parades and our EXPO rehearsals. It was so pleasing to see so many parents come along to the parades and we hope that a lot of parents will be able to come along to the EXPO. We will be having the EXPO performances professionally videoed for parents to purchase.

PARENT OPINION SURVEY: The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey (PCGOS) is a confidential survey made available to all Victorian government schools in Term 3 each year. The objective of this survey is to collect parent/caregiver/guardian opinion data from individual schools, and to use this information to assist with the future planning and improvement of Victorian schools.

SWIMMING PROGRAM:  Our grade 3 students have had the opportunity to attend swimming lessons at Genesis. This was funded by a grant from DET.

PAMPER AND PASTA: Next Wednesday the 23rd of August we will be having our Pamper and Pasta evening. This came about after our Student Voice group informed me they didn’t think it was fair that only dads got to come to school with their children to do activities after school. They said many of their mums worked and couldn’t get to school during school hours. We are looking forward to the evening.

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECKS: We have had two excursions recently, Grade 1 to Animal Land and Preps to the Werribee Zoo. We asked parents to volunteer to assist with supervision on the excursions. To attend excursions parents must have a current Volunteer Working with Children check. You can apply for this online, once you have received this we need to photocopy the card and add it to our database.

SPORTS: We have had so many students representing our school in different sports. A big thank you to our PE teachers, Mr Demarchi, Ms Montalti and Ms Modesti who give up many of their recess and lunch breaks to offer students extra training.

CENTENARY MEMORABILIA: Don’t forget to take the opportunity to order Centenary Memorabilia, it includes a Centennial bear, pen sets, tin mugs, bumper stickers and a carry bag.

NAPLAN: NAPLAN results are still available from the office for students in grades 3 and grade 5 who sat the tests. We request parents pick them up from the office or send a note to say their child can collect it instead.

BROOKFIELD PRIMARY SCHOOL: The new Brookfield school will be opening in 2024. Its new name is BINAP PS. It will be zoned as all government schools are in Melton. To find out if you are in the zone google Find My School, type in your address, select enrolment year, and select primary school. If you then decide to enrol your child/ren at the new school please email me via the address below.

melton.south.ps@education.vic.gov.au

As your child/ren are already enrolled at MSPS they can continue at our school. if that is what you choose to do. If you do decide to enrol at another school and you are not in our zone then you will be unable to re-enrol at Melton South Primary.

2024: We are already planning for 2024 so if you know your child/children will be moving to another school next year please advise the school via email: melton.south.ps@education.vic.gov.au  We are currently taking Prep enrolments for 2024. Please see the office staff for more information.
