Important Information
Countdown to Prep
Countdown to Prep is an innovative program offered by Melton South Primary School, designed to ease the transition for children and families into their new school environment. This engaging initiative helps families familiarise themselves with essential aspects of starting school and highlights simple strategies for families to ensure your child is school ready.
Led by a current Prep teacher, children participate in various activities such as art, play, song, and fine motor skills development, all while enhancing their social and emotional growth. Countdown to Prep brings together incoming Prep students and their families, fostering connections and learning within the community.
Additionally, the program supports parents and caregivers by offering opportunities to build social networks, connect with other families, and cultivate positive relationships with our school. Our goal is to ensure that every child and family feels safe, secure, and welcomed at Melton South Primary School, nurturing a strong sense of belonging from the very beginning.

OSH Club
Burmese Group
Chin Community Group
Melton South Primary School is privileged to partner with Foundation House to offer a Chin community group. The group invites Chin and Burmese parents in the community to build connections while exploring different topics. The group has explored the importance of self care, over a few terms, including participating in water relaxation sessions, aromatherapy and nail sessions. Guest speakers have spent time with the group also such as Women’s health and Centrelink. The focus of the group is set by the needs of those who attend the group in consultation with the facilitator.
Chin community group is every Wednesday during the school term from 9:30am to 11:30am. Please contact the office for more information and to check in before attending as sometimes the group participates in activities offsite.
Breakfast Club
School Breakfast Club provides a warm and welcoming space for students when they arrive at school, enabling them to enjoy a nutritious breakfast, allowing them to engage and participate fully in all the educational and social opportunities that school offers. Our breakfast club is held every Wednesday from 8.30am – 8.50am in the school gym area entering through gate 5 & 6.
Staff and volunteers help set up our Breakfast Club space and provide students with a variety of healthy, Victorian grown or manufactured breakfast foods. These include SPC diced fruit cups, toast with margarine and vegemite, full cream milk and fruits (apple/pears/oranges/carrots).
This program is to supplement families that may not be in the position to provide breakfast on that day and is provided for our school students only.
Fathering Poject
Our evidence-based programs effectively engage students, fathers and families and build strong community partnerships for the lifelong benefit of students.
Events include fun games nights, or art and craft nights and typically involve a BBQ, pizza or other yummy meal.
At Melton South Primary we aim to have an event every term. These are very well attended and have grown from 50 or so families to around 200!
Dads and kids events:
- The program has brought dads together when they otherwise wouldn’t have had the opportunity. It’s also helped dads be more aware of what their kids are learning at school.
- Research shows schools who specifically target fathers will see better outcomes for students.
- When fathers participate in school activities, meetings and events, children enjoy school more, are less likely to have behaviour issues and are more likely to participate in extracurricular activities. Children are also more likely to engage in school and perform better academically.
