EVERY SCHOOL DAY COUNTS
Wednesday November 13th 2024

Melton South Primary School acknowledges the Wurundjeri People as the Traditional Owners of the land on which we learn and play. We value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture. We recognise the First People’s connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respects to Elders, both past, present and emerging.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Everyone has the right to be SAFE
Everyone has the right to be RESPECTED
Everyone has the right to LEARN

TRANSITION DAY: It was great to meet so many of our 2025 students on Monday. Parents attended an information session and had the opportunity to meet with our uniform suppliers, OSHC providers, wellbeing team members and the Principal team. We have two more sessions to go.

REMEMBRANCE DAY: On Monday we held a short service with a minute’s silence for Remembrance Day. This service was led by some of our grade 6 students, and they did it very respectfully.

PLANNING FOR 2025: Teachers are busy planning for 2025, allocating students into their new grades. All students have had the opportunity to nominate some friends they would like to be with next year.

DECISIONS: Everyone has the right to be SAFE, Everyone has the right to be RESPECTED All decisions made by the Principal team are done so with the best interests of children and families in mind. Not all decisions are easy, and we know that they are not all going to be popular with everyone, but we do the very best we can.

ILLNESS: Last week and on Monday we had over 20 staff absences due to illness. Please be aware it is very difficult to get Casual Relief Teachers even though we are using four agencies.

GRADE 2 CAMP EXPERIENCE: Last Friday night our grade 2 students had their camping experience at school. All students participated in camping experiences throughout the day and continued after school. The weather was perfect, the students had outdoor play, watched several short movies, then had dinner – pizza, juice, and a zooper dooper outside. Their manners were so good when they were lining up for their dinner, a credit to both parents and staff. They had time for some more outdoor play, and then inside to watch more movies.

FOOD/TOILETRIES DRIVE: Melton South Primary School is holding a food, and toiletries drive to make hampers for families in need. Christmas is a hard time for many families and every little bit helps. We are seeking donations from families and staff of non-perishable items e.g. tinned food, soup, pasta, pasta sauces, uht milk, (NO out of date items). Toiletries include toothpaste, toothbrushes, feminine hygiene products, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, soap. If every student/family donated one item, we would have over 500 items to make into hampers. Donations can be placed in the wheelie bin in the office foyer from Tuesday 12th November – Friday 13th December. Thank you for your donation and kindness.

INCIDENT IN WEIR VIEWS: If you feel your child has been impacted and needs counselling support following the police incident yesterday in Weir Views, and subsequent media coverage of those events, please feel free to contact the wellbeing team via the office so we can arrange some support. Your child and their safety remains our focus and priority. Our door is always open.

Grade 2 Camp Experience
Grade Two students had the opportunity to participate in a Camp Experience night at school on Friday 9th November. This event was part of the school’s plan to prepare students for camp in the coming years. Students stayed back after school to participate in some outdoor activities, eat dinner together and watch some camping clips on the big screen!

A visit from Staughton
Year 9 students from Staughton College’s Youth Empowerment Program visited some of our grade 6 students last week, to talk to them about student life at Staughton College. The Staughton students did an incredible job at answering questions from our students around what they will miss and not miss from primary school and worries they may have, while explaining the student matrix and SWPBS program. More transition sessions will follow for other grade 6 students.

MSPS FOOD/TOILETRIES DRIVE
12th November – 1st December
Please place all donated items in the wheelie bin in the front office foyer.
