EVERY   SCHOOL   DAY   COUNTS
Tuesday May 7th 2024

Melton South Primary School acknowledges the Wurundjeri People as the Traditional Owners of the land on which we learn and play. We value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture. We recognise the First People’s connectionR to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respects to Elders, both past, present and emerging.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Everyone has the right to be SAFE
Everyone has the right to be RESPECTED
Everyone has the right to LEARN

SOCIAL MEDIA: It would be appreciated if parents contacted the school if they have concerns prior to posting on social media.  We all want what is best for the students, a positive partnership between school and home would assist this.

MEETINGS WITH TEACHERS: If you need to talk to your child’s teacher, please make an appointment time that is convenient for both of you. Conversations before school in front of other students is not appropriate.

COLOUR FUN RUN:  We are getting very excited as our first ever Colour Fun Run draws closer. The students are working hard to get sponsors for the day. Some of the money raised will go towards new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Maths) resources. STEAM is a specialist subject across all grades.

SCHOOL PHOTOS:  School photos will be taken on Thursday and Friday. Please ensure your child/ren are at school on time as there will be no opportunity to retake class photos if they are late. Grade 4 photos will take place before they have their swimming lessons.

GYM CAR PARK: I have been advised that some students are riding bikes and playing games in the car park near the gym before school. One child was nearly hit by a car. Please discuss this with your children as a car park is not a play space.

COLOUR FUN RUN: There has been some confusion over whether parents can attend the FUN RUN. All students will be participating, so with inflatables and 930 students on our oval there will not be room for parents as well. Children’s safety is very important to us.

Grade 5 Community Group update

Last week our Grade 5 Community Group made bath salts out of epsom salts, dead sea salts, eucalyptus oil, herbs and food dye.

They made up lots of little gift packs for Mothers’ Day and presented them to a women’s group at the Melton South Community Centre. The children each practised reading aloud and speaking to an audience. They felt very happy afterwards as they made the women feel very special!

Whilst the students were at the Centre they were pleased to see their herb pots in the community garden are still thriving and being used to feed the community.

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea
Parents and carers are invited to attend a morning tea in the staffroom, as part of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, raising money for the Cancer Council. Bring a plate to share and a small donation. This is a great opportunity to meet other families from the Melton South community.
Morning tea will take place on Thursday May 23rd. Please confirm your visit by Wednesday May 22nd by emailing melton.south.ps@education.vic.gov.au.
